Election Update

The nominating committee of the Humane Society of Iredell is pleased to announce the candidates for the upcoming year (2008-2009).  Many of the people nominated were involved in the capital campaign that resulted in the construction of the Humane Society of Catawba No-Kill Animal Shelter and SNIP Regional Spay-Neuter Clinic in Hickory. One of the goals of this group is to build a shelter in Iredell County and to decrease the euthanasia rate. They plan to expand the usage of area low cost spay/neuter programs and seek ways to increase adoptions of animals. They also plan to hire an executive director to oversee daily operations with no cost to the Humane Society the 1st year.

Listed below are the nominees and their backgrounds:

Kevin Donaldson--- President
Kevin is a partner with the Mooresville law firm Jones, Childers, McLurkin, & Donaldson, PLLC and has always had an interest in animals and animal law. He offers his leadership skills and professional knowledge in order to better serve the needs and goals of the Humane Society of Iredell.

Lee Smith--- Vice-President
Lee is the mother of NASCAR® driver Regan Smith and President of RL Smith Inc., a Large Commercial Developer and General Contractor as well as President of RLS Structures Inc. a Large Post Frame Building Distributor.  Lee has been involved in animal rescue all over the country and has many contacts throughout the animal community. She volunteered in Gulfport, MS during Hurricane Katrina and is a member of the Humane Society of the United States N-DART (Disaster Animal Response Team), which would be called in to assist in any disaster.

Krissie Newman—Secretary
Krissie is the wife of NASCAR® driver Ryan Newman. Krissie was a major driving force behind the Humane Society of Catawba County no-kill Animal Shelter, the SNIP Regional Spay-Neuter Clinic, as well as many animal-endeavors including Hurricane Katrina Animal Disaster Relief. She has personally assisted many animal shelters and humane groups across the country as well as through the Ryan Newman Foundation.

Cindy Marlow—Treasurer
Cindy has been the treasurer of the Humane Society of Iredell for a few years. She is an expert at budget accounting and keeps track of all financial accounts including day-to-day operations involving donations, veterinary bill payment, budgets, reimbursements as well as investment accounts. Her reputation speaks for itself with her ability to handle this “full time job” as a volunteer position.

Greta Ray—Director of Public Relations
Greta is the daughter of NC House of Representative Karen Ray and has always had an interest in animal welfare as well as animal-related laws. Her family has had much experience in animal rescue with all of their family pets. Greta would like to see a shelter built for the Humane Society of Iredell as well as additional programs for public spay-neuter.

Kelley Earnhardt Elledge
Kelley is the sister to NASCAR® driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Vice President and General Manager of his company, JR Motorsports. Kelley has a passion for animal welfare and has helped many animals through the Dale Jr. Foundation as well as personal endeavors.  She has been a foster home for animals waiting to be adopted and all of her animals are rescued pets.

Rosalie De Fini
Rosalie is the Executive Director of the Ryan Newman Foundation. Rosalie is the former Executive Director of the Humane Society of Catawba County (HSCC) and served as the chair of the Building Committee for their multi-purpose facility that opened December 2007.  HSCC’s new facility includes the SNIP Regional Spay-Neuter Clinic. Rosalie is on the Board of PAWS (Piedmont Animal Welfare Society) Coalition, HSCC and the North Carolina Animal Federation.  She brings to the table much experience in animal welfare including what it takes to run an animal shelter as well as bringing a Humane Society to a greater level. She has also traveled extensively reviewing animal shelter design and functionality across the country as well as emergency animal relief projects.

John Kindley
John is the owner of the Mooresville Commercial real estate development firm Equity Commercial Properties (ECP) and wishes to pursue a shelter for the Humane Society of Iredell as well as projects for community animal welfare.

Honorable Kim Taylor
Judge Kimberly Taylor is a Resident Superior Court Judge, 22nd Judicial District, Sixth Division of North Carolina and has always had a passion for animals. She brings knowledge of animal welfare laws as well as a desire to see the Humane Society of Iredell as the premier animal resource for the community through education, a shelter and low-cost community spay-neuter options.

The official voting for these candidates will be at the annual meeting on Thursday, April 10th    7 PM at Shepherds Fire Dept, 2014 Charlotte Hwy., Mooresville, NC.

In order to be eligible to vote your membership dues must be in the hands of the treasurer by March 30th.  Membership forms are available on our website. You may download a form and mail in with a check or you may complete a membership online by clicking on the “Donate Now” button. You will be directed to a form and then to Paypal to complete the transaction. You will need a debit or credit card only. Please be sure to specify that your donation is for a membership. Please note that a family membership only entitles your family to one vote.

Directions to meeting at Shepherd’s Fire Department in Mooresville, NC:

From I-77 Northbound - take Exit 33 to the right. This puts you on Hwy 21 North which crosses over Hwy 150. After approximately 7 miles, the Fire Hall will be on the left. Enter through the doors with the twin coach lights. OR… 

From I-77 North and South bound - take Exit 42 to the RIGHT. This is Hwy 115/21. Counting the light at the truck stop as #1, the second light is at Gabriel Estates.AFTER this light Hwy 115 and Hwy 21 split. Veer to the right onto Hwy 21 and the Fire Hall is on the right. OR…
From Hwy 150 Eastbound - pass Randy Marion Chevrolet, go UNDER the bridge and turn right onto Hwy 21. You will see the fire hall after approximately 3 miles. 

From Hwy 150 Westbound - turn RIGHT onto Hwy 21 across from Aldi’s.
